I've been a bit MIA...

Well, it's officially the day Zack and I have been looking forward to for a couple of years now. While we've already unofficially been "moved on" from military life for a couple of months now, today it's official that Zack is no longer an Active Duty Marine and I am no longer a military spouse. The first big chapter of his adult life and our life together has officially ended. It's scary almost when you've been living with all the stability of a lifestyle for so long. A stable job, stable income, health benefits, a home. It's been a challenging couple of months as we get more settled here in Maine and figure out the next step for our little family. But I know we have so much to look forward to in the next year and it's refreshing to know we have the opportunity to start over. I am so proud of this guy and I can't wait to see what the next chapter of our life has in store for us. •

Well, it's officially the day...

This mama is on the struggle bus today. This morning I spent over an hour searching for Allie's sippy cup of milk only to find it in the shower...where I looked 5+ times considering that's where she was playing while I got ready for the day. I then got the incorrect order from Dunkin and to make that even worse, it was pumpkin flavored...and if you know me, you know I cannot stand anything pumpkin flavored so I couldn't even suck it up and drink it (shoutout to @mwhited8195 for bringing me the correct drink order!). Nap time wasn't any better. A solid 40 minutes of crying before Allie finally went down...then she woke up 30 minutes later 🙄 And now I'm scrambling to get everything on my to-do list done so we can officially launch Blogmas tomorrow 😬 It's been a morning and I'm about ready for my own nap at this point. But at least it's Friday? 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

It's yet another snow day here in Maine. The last winter I spent here was in 2015 and we maybe had three snow storms all winter. This year, we've had 3-5 just in the last couple of weeks 🙄 I'm already homesick for beautiful and warm North Carolina summers 😔 anyone else here who hates winter? Monday mornings can be such a drag. Am I right?! It’s the first day back from a weekend off so understandably, it’s known as the least enjoyable day of the week. You’re tired from weekend activities, you may not have slept much and really the last thing you want to be doing is dealing with another Monday. I get it! Thankfully there are ways to make Monday’s more enjoyable and productive so you’re not starting your week on a bad note. Here are my top tips for rocking your Monday morning:

1.  Start the night before. 

If there’s anything you can do the night before to make your Monday morning easier, then do it! It can be anything from cleaning up the kitchen to showering at night to picking out the kids clothes. Anything that makes the following morning less stressful for you. You can even leave yourself little notes for the morning so you don’t forget to do anything. Unfortunately, this adds to your nighttime routine on Sunday nights, but it’s so worth it!

2.  Don’t hit the snooze.

As tempting as it is, try to avoid hitting the snooze button. Instead, wake up and start your day the first time your alarm goes off. It can be challenging at first if you’re not a morning person, but by waking up earlier, you have more time during your day to get things done. This can leave you feeling so much more productive than if you had slept in that morning. So aim to start your day earlier!

3.  Put your phone down. 

Again, it may be super tempting to roll over and pick up your phone the moment you wake up. Everyone is guilty of this at some point or another. It can be so easy to lay in bed for an extra 15+ minutes just scrolling through your newsfeeds. But don’t do that. Instead, allow yourself to wake up on your own and ease yourself into your day before turning to your phone.

4.  Tackle five things on your to do list before noon. 

The night before, take the time to set your schedule for the following day along with your to do list, goals, and dinner plans. That way you can wake up the following morning and know exactly what you have going on that day. Next, try to tackle five items from your to do list before noon. This will give you so much more free time throughout the afternoon and it leaves you feeling more productive at lunch time.

5.  Get active. 

Not everyone has the motivation to go for a full jog or run every morning. And that’s totally fine! Instead, find a great yoga class or another low impact workout class to ease yourself into the day. You can even do yoga from the comfort of your own home. YouTube is full of amazing fitness experts who provide various levels of yoga. If yoga isn’t your thing, then hit the gym for an hour. Whatever works best for you. The important thing is that you get yourself up and moving. It’s a great way to wake yourself up and get energized for the day and can also help motivate you to continue making healthy choices throughout the day.

6.  Eat a healthy breakfast. 

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day for a reason. So when you wake up in the morning, be sure to fuel your body with good, nutritious foods. This will give you the energy needed to power through your morning and start your day off right.

7.  Straighten up the house. 

It’s best to go to bed with the house straightened up and organized, but if this isn’t doable then get it done first thing in the morning. While your coffee is being made and your breakfast is cooking, take the time to pick up things around the living room and/or straighten up the kitchen. You can also use this time to straighten up your bedroom and clean up anything else that needs some tidying. It makes for a great start to the day when everything is neat and organized.

8.  Practice self care. 

Self care is so important! Especially if you’re a mom. It’s the oxygen mask mentality: you have to take care of yourself before you can take care of other people. So if you want to be the best mom and wife you can be, then you need to put yourself first. Your family needs you to be happy and healthy.

9.  Spend time with a friend or family member. 

Getting together with a friend or family member is a great way to start your day and connect with those you love. It allows you to be present and in the moment. Even starting your morning with cuddles from your spouse, little ones, or even fur babies can make the morning so much better. AND this is a much better alternative than scrolling through your phone. If you have no one to cuddle then meet up with a friend or family member for a coffee or brunch date!

10.  Think positively.

How you spend your mornings can really set the tone for how you’re feeling and how much you accomplish throughout the entire day. When you wake up, try listing three or more things you’re excited about that day or things that you’re thankful for. This gets you excited for your day and helps you to start t on a more positive note. This can all be done right when you wake up rather than turning to your phone.
