27 Week Bumpdate

We have finally reached the end of my second trimester! It’s craziness. Pure craziness. I still feel like I JUST announced this pregnancy like last month and now here I am, stepping into my third and final trimester. I’m so excited for this update because I feel like I’ve come a LONG way since my first trimester recap or even since my 20-week check-in. How I’m feeling today is so drastically different from those two updates and honestly, it’s kind of bittersweet. I really wish I had felt this great through my entire pregnancy. But what can you do? At least I’m feeling better now! So onto my second trimester recap!


As of tomorrow, I will be 27 weeks which converts to 7 months! I feel like month 6 was never-ending. It was easily 5 or 6 weeks long. I don’t understand how these months are calculated. They don’t make sense to me at all.


Our little girl is 14.4 inches long and weighs about 1.9 pounds.


I think I’ve gained about 10 pounds so far, give or take a pound depending on the day. It’s a little harder to tell how much of the weight gain is baby and how much is muscle from my increased work outs. But it’s roughly 10 pounds!


Girl! We’re so very excited to be having a daughter. She’s going to be absolutely amazing.

You guys, I feel like these updates are so boring sometimes. I’m still pretty much symptomless. I’m a bit more tired some days which drives me insane and I sometimes have some heartburn, but that’s really it. And those things don’t even happen on a daily or even weekly basis. Oh and I’ve had a never-ending stuffed up nose, but that started the same time we moved here so I’m not sure if it’s pregnancy-related or if there’s just something I’m allergic to here. But either way, there’s really nothing “exciting” going on here with symptoms. Still smooth sailing!


Blueberries. Although I’m not sure I’d really call it a craving because I love and eat blueberries all the time anyways. But lately I consume them like nobody’s business. Just the other day, I ate an entire 24oz carton of them in one sitting…kind of insane, BUT it’s better than consuming a whole bag of potato chips so I’ll take it!

Sleep is all over the place at the moment for so many reasons. First, we have the fact that I’m just uncomfortable most nights. I’m a stomach sleeper and when I’m not a stomach sleeper, I sleep on my back. I cannot for the life of me sleep on my side. But unfortunately, I haven’t been able to sleep on my stomach for months now (obviously) and it’s now starting to get a little more challenging to sleep on my back unless my top half is elevated a bit. So I’ve been struggling a lot with getting comfy on my side.

Then we have Zack’s work schedule. He leaves for work at 4:30 in the morning so this completely disrupts my sleep. I’m pretty good about falling asleep, but my issue is staying asleep. So when he leaves for work, it literally takes me another hour or two to fall back to sleep which completely sucks. But I’m very fortunate that I work from home otherwise, I’d be exhausted all day, every day. So I don’t have to worry about not being able to fall back to sleep because I can easily take a nap at any point during the day if I need to. And my amazing husband highly promotes my nap taking which is awesome. Hopefully he still promotes them just as much when the baby is born!

Right now, I’m really just trying to listen to my body and be more flexible with my schedule. If I have a day where I’m just feeling tired and out of it, then I’ll allow myself to relax and watch a movie rather than spending the entire day out with a friend or locked in my office working. We’ve even had a lot of nights lately where we’re in bed by 7:30. Sounds lame, but with his schedule and me being pregnant, we are both more than happy to end our day earlier than most people our age.


So much movement!! Oh my gosh. It’s literally the coolest thing ever. It took me a while to realize what I was feeling was her so now that I can recognize her movements, I’m feeling them all the time. She’s less active throughout the day, but suuuuuuper active at night. So that worries me a bit. She’s already nocturnal. She’s also really active in the mornings when I first wake up. I fall asleep every night and wake up every morning with my hand on my stomach, feeling her move. It’s such a cool experience.

Quick story: the other night, it actually took me over an hour to fall asleep because I was playing with her. She was moving a ton so I pressed on my stomach to see if she could respond to those types of things yet and she totally did. She kicked back. I must have gone back and forth with her for close to 30 minutes before she got bored with me. Then I spent another 30 minutes, poking all different areas of my stomach, trying to get her to do it again and she wouldn’t. I fell asleep disappointed. But it was fun while it lasted.


Still my pre-pregnancy body and my energy! Man that lack of energy some days is horrible. Even walking around Marshall’s one day with a friend, I was exhausted and ready to sit down by the time I got back to my car. So bad. I’m also starting to miss wine, but it’s not too bad. Zack isn’t drinking right now since I can’t so that helps a ton! And I’m very rarely in a situation where everyone else is drinking so I don’t have too many moments where I’m feeling jealous. But sometimes, I just want to end my day on the couch with a glass of wine! And I know Zack misses me being able to drink too. So I’m excited for my first glass of wine after she’s born.


My clothes! Seriously, I’m in my normal jeans right now as I type this. Be honest, who here hates me for that? I admit, I’d hate me. I can’t wear my normal jeans when I’m relaxing on the couch and things like that because the button drives me insane, but out and about or sitting at my desk, I can wear them no problem. Some days I’ll opt for leggings or work out pants if I’m just hanging out around the house, working. And then I bought two pairs of jeggings a few months ago which I’ll wear as well. But other than that, I haven’t bought anything new pants-wise which I’m pretty happy about. Pants are so expensive sometimes and I just do not want to buy pants that I’ll only be wearing temporarily.

As for tops, I did buy some new work out tops that are a little bit longer. No maternity clothes or anything like that because I still want to wear them when the baby’s born. I just simply bought some flowy, longer tops from Target which are super comfy. I wear them all the time. Thankfully a lot of my tops are more flowy so I’ve just been wearing those more often than my more form-fitted tops. I did, however, buy a few new tank tops so that I wouldn’t stretch out my good ones. Again, not maternity, just longer ones from Target. I think they only cost me about $6 each or something like that so they were very inexpensive. AND they’re also very comfortable so I’m wearing those a lot too right now. So again, not much has really been purchased in this department either so far.

Soon, we’ll be going into the spring/summer months so I’m really wanting to buy a few cute maxi dresses that I can wear rather than pants because I’m sure by the time I’m 9 months, pants just wont be fun anymore…plus it’ll be summer and who wants to wear pants in the summer? Not this girl! Especially here where it gets super hot and humid. So I’m excited for dress season. But for now, I’m on a good path with my wardrobe.


Cardio sucks. I’m not gonna lie. I hated cardio pre-pregnancy, but I was really rocking it while Zack was away. Then I got pregnant and I now get winded so much easier than I used to. So honestly, I’ll admit that I’ve slacked a bit in this department. I ran a mile not too long ago and did great with it, but it kind of weirds me out running with a baby bump. It just feels weird. So I opt for the stationary bike or a long walk instead.

Every other part of my work out is still normal. I’m not currently doing abs, but I’m still building muscle in my arms and legs. Since I have scoliosis, I’ve also been focusing a lot on my lower back this pregnancy to keep those muscles strong. So far so good there. I had minimal lower back pain at the very start of my pregnancy but part of that was due to moving and being away from the gym for over a month. Once I got back to the gym, my back has been feeling just fine. I’m very fortunate there because my back was one of the areas I was a little worried about. I work it out anyways but being pregnant adds extra strain on it so I’m glad it’s doing well.

In addition to my workouts, I’m also in a prenatal yoga class every week. This has been really great for me for so many reasons. First off, it gives me a chance to connect with other women who are also pregnant (many of them also first time moms) and provides me with some awesome resources as well. My instructor, Jolie is fantastic. All of her classes are focused around moms so her workshops and resources are specifically for moms and include everything from meeting doulas to learning more about postpartum. She’s incredible. I definitely plan to continue her classes long after the baby is born so that I can keep my mental health in check and stay connected to all these amazing resources as well.

Amazing! For real, I couldn’t be doing better right now. I still have days where I’m a little uncomfortable with my body, but for the most part, I’m really rocking it. And honestly, I really think it’s because I’m so focused on my health right now. A few weeks ago, I mentioned a job offer I had with the San Diego Padres and at the time, I fully planned on taking the job. Well the following week, I sat down with Zack and discussed it all with him and ultimately decided against it. They were super understanding about it and I still have them in my contacts for after the baby is born.

At the end of the day, I just really wanted to take this time to focus on myself. It’s hard in this economy to live off one income, but I’m so very fortunate that we’re in such a good place financially between Zack’s job and my income from this blog. So I wanted to take advantage of this time while I have it. And I already decided I don’t want to be working after the baby is born either (aside from my business obviously) so that was another huge deciding factor there.

Between not taking the job, finding friends here, eating well, and continuing my workouts, I’ve been feeling incredible. It’s harder some days because I’m just so tired sometimes but I’ve been listening to my body and going at my own pace and it really helps. If you’re pregnant and find yourself struggling then I highly suggest talking to your spouse and finding a way to create some more ‘me time’. Without it, I’d be a mess right now. I do not regret this time to myself one bit and I’m very lucky to have such a supportive husband through it all as well. He’s been a rockstar.

Zack is great! He is currently in the process of getting back in shape so we’ve made a ton of changes to our home. You all know that I’m super big on health and fitness and it’s important to Zack as well. But recently, he’s decided to take his own health one step further which I am so proud of him for. He quit smoking at the start of the month which is super exciting! And now he’s currently obsessed with healthy foods and smoothies so we have a ton of healthy and delicious foods in our home right now. It’s so awesome that he’s now eating the foods I eat.

A couple of weeks ago, he came home with a NutriBullet so I went out and spent over $100 on smoothie ingredients. Literally the BEST investment we’ve ever made. No joke. We’re now able to start our day with healthy smoothies. We can also make our protein shakes for after the gym and have them waiting for us in the fridge when we come home. It’s awesome. We’re both obsessed with this thing!

So right now one of our big focus areas is our health. The baby will be here in just 3 months so we’re working hard to make sure we have all these healthy habits locked in place before she arrives.

In addition to focusing on health, Zack has been AMAZING these past 7 months. I mean, he’s amazing anyways, but he’s really gone above and beyond for me since he returned home from Japan. Those first few months were really hard on me and on our marriage between him coming home and moving cross-country and finding out I’m pregnant. It’s been challenging and it took us a while to really get back into a good routine together. But now, we couldn’t be closer.

He’s spent so much time these past 7 months making sure everything is done and taken care of around here. He’ll cook dinner and/or clean up the house when he knows I’m having a rough day or am feeling exhausted. He’s not a cuddly person but he’ll cuddle with me anyways when I need it. He’ll check in with me on his way home from work to see if I need anything and he’ll bring me breakfast or coffee in bed when I’m too lazy to get up. He’s been super supportive and patient with me while I go through this huge transition with my blog even though he doesn’t understand any of it one bit. He’s just incredible. I couldn’t be more thankful for him. He’s going to be such an amazing dad.


Everyone was right when they said the second trimester is the best. The first few weeks were still super hard on me in terms of my body image and all that but I think part of that was due to it being the holidays and not having a car that month. I literally couldn’t drive to the gym and spent my days eating a little too much. So I completely felt like crap. Once I got my car back from the garage, I started to see huge improvements in my mental and physical health.

We started the year with finding out the gender of our little one. It wasn’t what we were hoping for, but I couldn’t possibly have been more excited to hear we’re having a girl. She’s developing perfectly and couldn’t be more healthy so there’s really no room for disappointment there. We also really loved being able to see her on the ultrasound as well. She moves so much so I know we’re in for it when she’s born. She’ll be a fun one.

In addition to finding out the gender, I finally felt her move for the first time which I mentioned above. She’s super active in there which is bittersweet. I love it during the day, but it makes it challenging to sleep some nights. I’m not sure what she’s doing in there, but I swear she’ll end up being a gymnast or something. We’re going to have to get her involved in sports at a young age to burn off that energy.

Lastly, I gained boobs! If you know me, you know that I have been asking for a boob job since I was about 14 or 15 years old. No joke. I was the only child that didn’t inherit the boob gene for some reason. BUT I have them now. I went to Victoria’s Secret last month to buy some new bras and ended up having to get fitted because the ones I was trying on just didn’t seem to fit right. Surprisingly, I had gone up two cup sizes. It sucks from a financial standpoint, but I couldn’t have been more excited. I’m now obsessed with them. So that was a pretty exciting moment for me.


I’m officially back to being stressed because there’s so much to do and look forward to in these next three months. There’s so much going on. It’s exciting!

First, I’m excited to get her nursery set up. Right now I have absolutely no idea how we’re going to make it work considering her nursery is also an office AND a storage room right now, but we’ll figure it out. It’ll be a little cramped until next summer when we move back home, but thankfully she’s small.

Right now, I’m really just excited for her to be born. I know it’s still three months away, but I’m getting so excited and impatient. Don’t get me wrong, I’m also terrified, but I’m so excited to have our little family. I’ve been feeling extra emotional lately, just thinking about it. We wanted this so badly while Zack was away and it’s crazy to think that in just three short months, we’ll be parents. There’s no one else in this world I’d rather be a parent with. I’m excited for every sleepless night and every diaper change. And I’m even more excited that every moment of it gets to be with Zack. So right now, I’m feeling a ton of excitement as we get closer to her due date. And of course I’ll continue to keep you all updated every step of the way!
