As a busy mom to a very active 9 month old, it’s just not always doable or desirable to spend 30 minutes in the bathroom just doing my makeup in the morning. Most mornings, our daughter can be found sitting right under my feet, grabbing at my legs or the cord to the curling iron or playing with the shower curtain. Half my morning is spent moving her away from something she shouldn’t be touching. It’s never-ending so it can easily make my morning routine take twice as long some days.
Whenever I’m crunched for time or just not feeling like doing my entire morning makeup routine, I always opt for this quick and easy 5 minute routine instead. And coincidentally, my 5 minute routine consists of just 5 products (and a bonus product if you have the time)! So if you’re in need of a condensed, basic makeup routine for your busy morning, this one’s for you!
This first item is totally optional! On the days where I don’t want to do a full face of makeup, I love using the Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer. I’m not the biggest fan of it under my actual makeup, but for my lighter makeup days, it’s great. It’s super moisturizing and it’s literally like a skin detox. It’s infused with coconut water which I’ve been a huge fan of lately. And it works to boost your skin’s radiance while also promoting elasticity and keeping your skin hydrated. It leaves my face looking and feeling clean and nourished so it’s my go to primer for days like this.
Every woman needs a good tinted moisturizer. This is an absolute must-have in my makeup collection because it makes it a million times easier during those mornings when there just isn’t enough time for a full foundation routine. This alone saves me a good 5-10 minutes in the morning.
Rather than pulling out my makeup brushes and sponges, I just slap some moisturizer in my hand and massage it into my face. The big thing here, though is to make sure your hands are clean! It’s so important to have clean hands whenever you’re applying makeup directly to your face like this. Otherwise, it can cause breakouts super easily.
One of my favorite tinted moisturizers is the Naked Skin One & Done Hybrid Complexion Perfector by Urban Decay (try saying that, 5 times fast!). This is probably my all-time favorite tinted moisturizer! I use the lightest shade which is just called ‘light’ and even then it’s slightly darker for my normal skin tone. So this is my go to for the summer months when my skin is a bit more on the tan side. I’ll also sometimes use this in the winter months when I’m actually keeping up with my tan (like this morning) or when I’m wanting a little more of a natural glow. 9 times out 10, this is then I’m using!
Another favorite of mine is the Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer. This one is my go to tinted moisturizer for when my skin is super pale. Like white kind of pale. It can be so challenging to find foundations and tinted moisturizers that match my whitest skin tone and this one is great for it! This one can be a little thick so less is definitely more! You can always add more later if needed so don’t overdo it with this one.
*Side note: sometimes I’ll dab on a little concealer under my eyes if needed, but like the primer, this is totally optional and depends on how much time you have! In order for this to be a quick makeup routine, you have to pick and choose your essentials.
Blush or Bronzer
Having some sort of color on your cheeks helps so much in making you look a bit more awake and glowing. This time of year, I love using a nice blush while in the summer months, I’ll add a bit of bronzer. Whichever you prefer and works best for you! If you have the time, you can even use both!
Currently, my favorite blush is by Clinique. This one is in the color ‘Melon Pop’ and it’s a super pretty coral kind of color. I love coral colored blush as opposed to the usual pink or peachy kind of shades. It’s just such a pretty, summery shade to me and can be worn at any time of year.
I use two different colored eyeliners each day. The first is a brown retractable liner by Maybelline New York and the second is a white pencil liner by Urban Decay. The brown is just my everyday eyeliner, but the white is what makes my eyes pop a little. I put it right on the waterline and in the inner corner and it really helps to make me look more awake and alert. And when you’re a busy mom, you’re probably in need of a little something to make you look more awake than you are!

To complete the eye, I love using a good mascara. Currently I’m loving the Lash Stiletto mascara by Maybelline New York. I’m really wanting to try the NYX Worth The Hype Mascara, but I have yet to buy it. So if you’ve tried it, let me know if you love it!
A nice lip stain is really what completes the look for me. A bare lip just looks so incomplete! So I always try to add a bit of color to my lips (even if it’s a nude shade). If you’ve been a follower of mine for a while now, then you know that I LOVE the L’Oreal Paris Lip Stains. I probably have 10-15 different shades by them. I’m that hooked. They’re super easy to apply and they last all day. They’re fantastic!
So there you have it! That’s my super basic 5-minute makeup routine. No contouring or full eye makeup needed! On our more busy mornings, this is my go to routine to get myself ready for the day in a flash! Perfect for busy moms (or busy women in general).
