I love watching this little girl grow. This photo was just taken in early October and she's already a completely different child now. She's running, talking, and has all the best dance moves. She has a favorite stuffed animal, favorite foods and loves to read books. She knows all of her body parts as well as a few animals and what they say. She knows people's names and can recognize a photo of them on the wall. This child is so bright and so beautiful and there's nothing I love more than being her mom 😍

Anyone else dreaming of summertime...

Today was a big day. Today, I ended my 19+ months of being "just" a stay-at-home mom and blogger and officially went back to work outside the home. Last month, I officially accepted a position as a Behavioral Health Professional, working with kids with behavioral issues and disabilities and today I had my first full day away from Allie. While I missed her terribly, it was so refreshing to have the opportunity to talk to and work with other adults for the first time in 2.5 years. I’m so incredibly excited for this opportunity and to start making a difference in these families’ lives. HUGE huge thank you to my husband for being the stay-at-home parent this month and another huge thank you to my sisters (@alexvic3179 and @kendalanne4), Zack’s mom (@mbartlett28) and anyone else who may be watching Allie in order to allow me to go back to work and pursue this dream. 😍

Lately, I've become obsessed with the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion. My skin is so acne prone these days and this lotion dries them right up overnight. It's become one of my holy grail beauty products. Check out the blog for five more of my holy grail beauty products! {link in the bio}

6 Foolproof Tips For Getting Through A Deployment | Why Hello Lovely

Military life is hard.  Deployments and separations are a typical aspect of this lifestyle and it’s always a challenge.  It can be hard to go about my everyday life without Zack here with me.  I have days where I feel like I’m rocking this separation and then I have days where I feel like I’m failing miserably and spend my day locked in my room and binge watching Netflix.  It really never gets easier.  But it’s doable.  There are so many ways to get through it and make the time feel like it’s going by faster than it is.  Today I’m sharing 6 ways to get through a deployment.

CREATE A DEPLOYMENT BUCKET LIST.

When Zack left for Japan, I created a list of things I wanted to accomplish while he was away.  I keep adding to it as I cross things off, but it’s been so helpful to have some goals and things to keep me occupied for this next year.  It makes me feel like I’m accomplishing things rather than sitting at home, moping and waiting for him to return.

TAKE ON A SECOND JOB OR VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME.

Taking on a second/part-time job or volunteering your time is a great way to get yourself out of the house and interacting with others.  It can be easy to stay cooped up in your house, binge watching Netflix and drinking wine all night (which I definitely prefer most nights), but it’s so important to get out as well.  Plus it never hurts to have some extra cash!

FIND A NEW HOBBY.

Hobbies are such a great distraction!  Blogging has been the biggest help for me since Zack left.  I love being able to connect with everyone and share my life with you all.  It’s so great to have such an awesome support system for this challenging time in our marriage.  I’ve also made an effort to start going to the gym more often and read more as well.  I’d also really like to learn how to snowboard this winter (although I cannot stand the snow or cold weather).  Find something new to try out!  The key to surviving a deployment is finding things that keep you sane and busy!

KEPE BUSY.

Keeping your schedule full will help to keep yourself distracted. It’s the days where I don’t have as much going on that I start to miss Zack and wish he could be home with me.  This then leads to some very lonely and miserable days.  Don’t do that to yourself.  Of course it’s important to have time to yourself as well (which I absolutely love), but I’ve found that staying busy for 5 days out of the week really helps.  Keep your mind active so that you can enjoy your day rather than spending it upset and in tears.

FIND A DEPLOYMENT BUDDY.

It makes these difficult times a little bit easier when you have someone to go through it with.  Since Zack’s not going through an actual deployment right now, I don’t have any friends whose spouses are overseas with him.  So unfortunately I don’t have a deployment buddy per say.  However, I do my best to surround myself with people who are positive and understand what I’m going through which helps so much.  Although my family and friends here have been so amazing these past few months, sometimes it’s just good to have someone who really gets it.  Which is where all of you come in!  So thank you all for being my deployment/separation buddies!

GO BACK TO SCHOOL.

My top goal for when Zack is away is to complete my bachelor’s degree.  I’ve actually been trying to do this for a while now and just haven’t been able to.  Life gets in the way sometimes.  But since Zack left, school has been one of the few things in my life that has kept me sane.  Instead of spending all my time missing him, my time is going toward my education.  I will be graduating in May with my BA in Communications and Public Relations (hopefully with a 4.0 GPA) and I couldn’t be more proud of myself for it.

In order to achieve this goal, you need to find a good school that can help you achieve it.  That’s where Martinsburg College comes into play.  Martinsburg College has been working with our service members and their families since 2004.  They understand the challenges military families face and are dedicated to providing them with a quality education.  They also participate in the MyCAA program which is available to spouses of active duty service members in pay grades E1-E5, W1-W2, and O1-O2 who are working towards an associate degree, a certification, or a license.  If you have any questions about whether or not you’re eligible, you can click here for more information on these benefits.

Martinsburg offers many different online degree programs and certifications from healthcare to business to information technology and more.  With a learning environment that is completely online, students have the ability to work at their own pace and easily work their education into their schedules.  Students are also given free digital access to the textbooks needed for their courses which saves students hundreds of dollars each term.  If a student needs assistance, he/she has access to one-on-one tutoring sessions either by phone or online whenever needed as well as instructional support Monday through Thursday 7:30 AM – 11 PM, Fridays 9 AM – 6 PM, and Saturdays 11 AM – 6 PM.

If Martinsburg sounds like a good fit, then you can enroll today or request information by clicking here!  If you wish to connect with other military spouses and learn more about MyCAA benefits, then you can join this Facebook group created by Martinsburg College!
