If you have dry and/or fair skin then you know and understand the struggle of finding a foundation that actually matches and helps combat the dryness. I’ve been on the struggle bus with this since high school! My skin has balanced out a bit over the years and isn’t nearly as pale or dry but I remember trying on foundations and having them look so orange and cakey on my skin. Once I got into college, I started playing around with other foundations and tried out some high-end brands as well and I now have a great collection of foundations that work perfectly for my skin type and color!
Now before we get into my top 5 favorites, I want to talk about my skin type and color and all that. I’m very pale and typically have some pink undertones to my skin. My skin is also pretty normal but can be more on the dry side at times so having foundations that are a bit more moisturizing helps a ton for me. My skin is most try around my nose as well as on my chin so that whole area of my face can be challenging to cover correctly. And lastly, my skin is a little more sensitive at times and very acne prone! So I always have to watch the ingredients in the makeup I use.
Since every brand is different, these swatches aren’t all going to be identical. I had to test out a few colors of each brand to find the one that fit me perfectly. Some of these are for the winter months when I’m at my lightest, while others are for the summer months when I’m a little darker than normal. So not all of these shades are identical so keep that in mind if you have a similar skin color to mine!
The swatches above show each of these foundations in the shades I use. As you can see, some are darker than others, but there’s a reason for it! Each of these foundations is used for a different time of year and in various situations which I’ll note below! These aren’t all year round, everyday foundations for me. So let’s get started on why I love these five foundations!
Hydro Boost Hydrating Tint
This is currently my absolute FAVORITE foundation right now. Seriously. I can’t rave about it more. This foundation is so lightweight and I’ve noticed such a positive difference in my skin as well since I’ve started using it. The color matches perfectly and looks natural on my skin. I have a lot of people who comment on it saying I look like I have a more healthy glow since using it. It’s also light to medium coverage so it doesn’t even look like I’m wearing makeup! This is a must-have for dry skin!
KAT VON D
This is the perfect foundation for those with veeeeery pale skin as well as for those who need a more high coverage foundation. If you have very dry skin then this might not be your best choice, but for those with normal, normal-dry or oily skin, it works super well. This was my go to when I was dealing with acne and wanted to keep it all covered. It’s a little thicker and not as lightweight as the Hydro Boost, but for nights out where you want your makeup locked in place all night, this is a winner!
FIT Me Matte and Poreless
Maybelline was one of the first makeup brands I was introduced to as a teen and it’s still to this day one of my favorite drugstore makeup brands. The FIT Me foundation line is super lightweight (although not as lightweight as the Hydro Boost – that one wins there) and leaves my skin feeling so much softer and more moisturized.
barePro Performance Wear Liquid Foundation
This is my second favorite foundation right now and reminds me a lot of the Neutrogena Hydro Boost. It’s very lightweight, easy to apply and leaves your skin glowing and feeling moisturized. Also like the Hydro Boost, this foundation looks very natural on your skin which is why it’s another huge favorite of mine!
All-Nighter Liquid Foundation
Lastly, we have Urban Decay. Similar to the Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation, this one is also a bit thicker and is a medium to high coverage. This shade is also slightly darker than my natural skin tone because it’s one of my summer foundations (when my skin tone is typically a little darker). This is more of my summer nights foundation because it keeps my makeup locked in place!
So there you have it! My top five liquid foundations for normal-dry skin. These are foundations I’ve purchased over and over again because I love them so much! So let me know in the comments what your favorite liquid foundations are! I’d love to hear what you all are loving so I know what to try next.
