Taking The Breathe2Believe Challenge With Newton Baby |

As first time parents, we’ve had many fears over the last year regarding our daughter’s safety and wellbeing. I wasn’t necessarily scared of being a mom or whether or not I could handle it. To be honest, I knew I’d be a fantastic mom. But I was always fearful of Allie’s sleep. Sleep safety is a fear that all moms have whether it’s your first baby or your fourth. So we took her sleep very seriously right from day one.

For the first 6 months, Allie slept in a pack n play in our bedroom next to my side of the bed. I loved this because she was always within arm’s reach so I could easily check on her throughout the night and be there instantly if she were to need me. But once she turned 6 months, we all knew it was time to move her to her crib in her nursery.

I was super hesitant at first. Although her bedroom door is within inches of ours, it still bothered me that she’d be so “far away” from me. At that point she had been rolling for a few months but a part of me still worried she’d roll on to her belly and somehow get stuck in the middle of the night. And not being there, I wouldn’t have been able to fix it. So the thought of her being in her own room was definitely a bit worrisome to me. But again, we knew it was time to make the transition.

Putting together Allie’s crib, we knew we needed to keep her sleep space as safe as possible for her. This meant no blankets or crib bumpers or stuffed animals or anything along those lines. I also knew I wanted some sort of mattress pad on her mattress as well so when I heard about the new waterproof and breathable mattress pad by Newton Baby, I was so excited to try it out.

We chose this mattress pad for multiple reasons. First off, it’s waterproof. The special waterproof lining makes it super easy to clean up any and all messes that may occur which is such an important feature when you have little ones. Allie has never had a diaper leak or anything like that (knock on wood) but she did have a cold back when she was 3.5 months old or so and she woke up spitting up everywhere. It was a mess. And messes happen often when you have young children so having a pad that’s waterproof is so helpful.

Another reason why we chose the Newton Baby mattress pad was the breathability. And this was a huge one for us.

The Newton Waterproof & Breathable Crib Mattress Pad adds a layer of breathability to any crib mattress. The top panel allows babies to breathe right through it which is perfect for babies who are just learning to roll back and forth on their own. This element also helps in temperature regulation as well which we all know is another super important thing to think about when it comes to our little ones’ sleep.

Allie loves to sleep face down in her crib mattress so after we out the new pad on her mattress, we took the Breathe2Believe challenge and tested out the breathability for ourselves. I was pleasantly surprised with how easily I could breathe right through the material. The pad was comfortable, breathable, and even had a cooling effect to it. We went to bed that night feeling so much better about her crazy sleeping habits.

Keeping our little ones safe is every parent’s top priority and thanks to Newton, we can all sleep soundly knowing our little girl is safe and sound in her crib no matter what position she chooses to sleep in at night.
