Next weekend, I am officially flying with a toddler for the first time…alone. Can I get some prayers? haha The only thing I’m actually “nervous” about is the simple fact that Allie is very mobile. So I honestly have no idea how I would keep her entertained for 6 hours if we were flying during the daytime (electronics are out of the question, hence why we are opting to fly at night!). So I’m hoping the flight isn’t too horrible with her. Fingers are crossed that we both sleep the whole ride.
Our flight there will be almost 6 hours long and although we’ll be flying overnight, I’m already thinking ahead to everything I’ll need for the flight (I’ll be sharing more on this flight in a future post, but for now I want to focus on my carry-on). I haven’t flown since 2014 but thinking back on past flights and road trips, I already have a general idea of what will be must-haves for me on this flight. I’ll be doing a post on how I packed Allie’s carry-on for this flight as well (so stay tuned for that one!) but for now, I’m sharing what I packed for myself in my own carry-on. These are all my must-have’s that I always recommend others pack!
Neck Pillow. If you’re flying overnight (or for any extended amount of time), a good neck pillow is really nice to have. I couldn’t even imagine sleeping on a plane without one.
Eye Mask. Another great sleeping essential! A good eye mask will help block out any light from other passengers and allow you to get in a much better nap. Zack and I have been obsessed with these lately! We never sleep without them.
Ear Buds. Earbuds always come in handy while traveling. You can use them to watch a movie, listen to music, or even listen to a great audiobook. Whatever your heart desires. Or you can pop them in to avoid talking to strangers. Either way, it’s a great item to have.
Comfortable Shoes. Duh. These are a must. Please don’t wear heels or any other uncomfortable shoe to the airport just for photo ops. Sneakers or comfortable flats are perfect for traveling!
A Good Book. Lately, I’ve been really trying on getting back into reading. So I downloaded the Audible and Kindle apps to my phone and downloaded a bunch of books to it for my flight. I’m flying overnight but I’m not sure how Allie will do or how well I’ll sleep, so I want to have something to keep me occupied just in case.
Degree Women UltraClear Antiperspirant Deodorant Dry Spray Black + White Pure Clean. This is an absolute must! There’s nothing I hate more than the smell of body odor on a flight or other forms of public transportation. So I always make sure I’m using a great deodorant to prevent myself from being that person. My current favorite is the Degree Women UltraClear Antiperspirant Deodorant Dry Spray Black + White Pure Clean. I have this deodorant in my bathroom, my gym bag, and my luggage because it’s just that good! While this can’t actually go with me on the flight, I always make sure to put it on prior to heading out and then toss it in my checked bag for when I arrive at our destination.
This deodorant goes on instantly dry for a cleaner feel and has up to 48-hour protection against wetness and odor. It’s even made with Motionsense Technology which relates bursts of extra protection whenever you move. And to make it even better, it’s dermatologist-tested and it’s alcohol-free. This makes it an awesome addition to any carry-on.
While all the above features are nice, the big thing I love about Degree Women UltraClear Antiperspirant Deodorant Dry Spray Black + White Pure Clean is that it doesn’t leave white marks on my dark clothing and it also doesn’t leave yellow stains on my lighter clothing! If you know me, you know that a lot of my closet consists of darker colors…like black. Lots of black. And finding a great deodorant that doesn’t leave white marks is a challenge sometimes. So finally finding one that keeps my clothes clean is a huge bonus!
Not only is it good for traveling, but it’s also awesome for everyday life. From a night out with the girls, a date night with your significant other or even chasing your little ones around the house or park. The Degree Women UltraClear Antiperspirant Deodorant Dry Spray Black + White Pure Clean is an essential part of my everyday life. And this is why it was one of the first items to be added to my carry-on!
If you want to purchase Degree Women UltraClear Antiperspirant Deodorant Dry Spray Black + White Pure Clean for yourself, you can now earn $1.50 cash back at Walmart using the free Checkout 51 app on your smartphone! If you don’t already have this app on your phone, I highly recommend downloading it! It’s just four simple steps:
- Browse the offers available to you within the app.
- Buy the products from any store of your liking.
- Take a photo of your receipt to redeem your offer.
- Earn cash back! (once your account reaches $20 in savings, you have the option to cash out and get a check for your savings!).
This means you don’t have to spend hours flipping through coupon books and random flyers you get in the mail and you never have to remember to bring them with you either. This is an essential app as a mom so I highly recommend getting it before your next shopping trip!
A Sweatshirt, Sweater or Blanket. I haven’t flown in forever but I do remember how chilly airplanes can be! Plus we’re arriving very early in the morning as well and New England can sometimes be quite chilly that time of day. So I have a sweatshirt packed just in case!
Face Masks. If you’re comfortable wearing a face mask while traveling, then bring one! Seriously. My skin gets so dry whenever I’m traveling and since I’m flying overnight, I definitely want to wear a nice face mask for a bit once we’re in the air. It’s a great way to put moisture back into your skin.
Moisturizer + Lip Balm. If you’re not comfortable wearing a face mask or just want something additional to add to your skin, be sure to keep both a moisturizer and a lip balm handy at all times. I use both religiously while traveling.
Gum. Pretty basic here. Gum helps a ton in keeping your ears from popping and getting uncomfortable.
Chargers For Each Device. Another common sense item. If you’re bringing any sort of device for entertainment purposes whether it’s an iPhone or a laptop or an iPad or whatever it may be, don’t forget the chargers! You don’t want to pack them in your checked bag only to end up on a 3-hour layover without them.
Healthy Snacks + Water. Always have water on you when you travel. Always. It’s so easy to get dehydrated so always having a bottle of water on you will help a lot with this issue. Also, it’s great to have healthier food options so you’re not pigging out on junk.
Large Clutch For Essentials. A clutch is awesome to have in order to keep essential items all in one place. Mine holds documents, money, my debit card, and other miscellaneous items I may need to get to easily.
Pain Reliever. Lastly, I highly recommend bringing some sort of pain reliever. For me, I sometimes end up getting a little bit of a headache when flying or driving to higher elevations. So I knew this would be a must-have for me. Not to mention airplane seats aren’t all that comfortable either so you may need it to relieve any aches or pains. Always good to have!
