[ad] Today I am dreaming of Christmas parties. Anyone else? We’re only halfway through the month and we’ve already had more family gatherings than I can count with so many more to go. And Christmas parties in the Bartlett household means photos…lots of photos. But I just didn't feel very photo-ready thanks to my grays (and yes, I had A LOT of grays). So I picked up @zotosprofessional hair color at @sallybeauty and these days I'm feeling gorgeous, confident, and ready to take on the holiday photos. Today on the blog, I'm sharing how I get myself photo-ready as well as what I plan to wear to this year's Christmas party! #MyAgeBeautiful #sponsored #linkinbio

[ad] Today I am dreaming...

I've been a bit MIA lately. Why you may ask? Well, because I've been half on the struggle bus and half working on a rather large project that I've had in draft mode for far too long. And I am SO excited about it. I literally woke up the other day and decided THAT was the day I'd get started on it and I've been hooked on it ever since. If you're a mom in Southern Maine, you won't want to miss this! So be sure to sign up for our email list via the link in my bio so you can be one of the first to know what's going on.

I've been a bit MIA...

Well, it's officially the day Zack and I have been looking forward to for a couple of years now. While we've already unofficially been "moved on" from military life for a couple of months now, today it's official that Zack is no longer an Active Duty Marine and I am no longer a military spouse. The first big chapter of his adult life and our life together has officially ended. It's scary almost when you've been living with all the stability of a lifestyle for so long. A stable job, stable income, health benefits, a home. It's been a challenging couple of months as we get more settled here in Maine and figure out the next step for our little family. But I know we have so much to look forward to in the next year and it's refreshing to know we have the opportunity to start over. I am so proud of this guy and I can't wait to see what the next chapter of our life has in store for us. •

Well, it's officially the day...

This mama is on the struggle bus today. This morning I spent over an hour searching for Allie's sippy cup of milk only to find it in the shower...where I looked 5+ times considering that's where she was playing while I got ready for the day. I then got the incorrect order from Dunkin and to make that even worse, it was pumpkin flavored...and if you know me, you know I cannot stand anything pumpkin flavored so I couldn't even suck it up and drink it (shoutout to @mwhited8195 for bringing me the correct drink order!). Nap time wasn't any better. A solid 40 minutes of crying before Allie finally went down...then she woke up 30 minutes later 🙄 And now I'm scrambling to get everything on my to-do list done so we can officially launch Blogmas tomorrow 😬 It's been a morning and I'm about ready for my own nap at this point. But at least it's Friday? 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

It's yet another snow day here in Maine. The last winter I spent here was in 2015 and we maybe had three snow storms all winter. This year, we've had 3-5 just in the last couple of weeks 🙄 I'm already homesick for beautiful and warm North Carolina summers 😔 anyone else here who hates winter? If you need us, Allie and I will be curled up inside with some movies and a never-ending to-do list. #bloggerlife •

How To Create The Perfect Road Trip Emergency Kit | KeatingBartlett.com

Road trips have always been a huge part of my life growing up. For all family vacations, my parents almost always chose to drive over purchasing plane tickets. I can probably count on one hand the number of times I’ve been on a plane in my lifetime. It’s really not often that it happens. When I got my license at 16, I was more than excited to get behind the wheel and start on a road trip. My first big trip was when my family moved to Florida in my senior year of high school. My parents took one car, while I drove my own with my sisters. I drove every single mile all the way from Maine to Florida. It was a blast!

A few years later, my parents moved to Vermont while I attended school in Maine. My sisters and I loved taking the scenic route through the mountains to visit our friends back in Maine every summer. It was a gorgeous view and the trips were always full of so many amazing memories. When I first fell in love with Zack, I then did my first long solo road trip from Vermont to North Carolina. 15 hours in the car all by myself, all in one day (and on very little sleep due to the excitement of seeing him). I made that drive multiple times over the course of 6 months before finally moving there to be with him.

For me, road trips have always been a time for creating memories, experiencing new things, meeting new people, and seeing new places.  It’s an adventure. But road trips aren’t always fun and games so it’s important to always be prepared. We all know to have jumper cables in our cars and tools in case something were to happen along the way (or at least I hope you all know to do that), but what about those miscellaneous incidents that we don’t always plan for? Like spills, nausea, or even headaches. Sometimes we just aren’t prepared which is why it’s important to have an emergency kit in your car at all times.

Emergency kits are super easy to make and the contents will vary depending on the person or how far you’re traveling. Mine is full of products that I admit, I don’t even use on every road trip. But when the time comes, I’m always super thankful that I have what I need.

Creating an emergency kit is super simple and straight-forward.

CHOOSE A CUTE BAG.

I keep mine in my glove compartment. That way I can easily access it if needed. I chose a clear plastic bag for a few reasons. First, being that it’s plastic, it’s much easier to clean if something spills in it. There’s nothing worse than reaching for a band-aid only to find out a lotion exploded and made a mess. Cloth bags can be way too annoying to clean out in these cases. The other reason why I chose a clear bag is so that I can easily see the contents. I don’t have to dig around in a bag or pull everything out to find what I’m looking for. Most times, I can just look at the bag to find where my product is located and then grab it from there. So much easier. But your bag of choice is completely up to you!

GATHER YOUR MATERIALS.

The travel aisle in Walmart is my best friend for things like this. It’s a super easy way to gather a bunch of products for next to nothing. So that’s where I ended up for my road trip essentials kit.

1 |  Plasticware. Yup. For real, guys. I have plasticware in my car. I have extra straws too. Straws make it easier to drink things in the car without spilling it and plasticware always comes in handy when you’re trying to eat something and don’t have a fork on you. Sometimes you just forget to grab a fork or spoon when you stop for food. It happens. So I’m always prepared there.

2 | Wipes. I can’t even begin to tell you how often I make messes in the car. One time, I spilled an entire large iced coffee all over the front seat of Zack’s truck…which he had just purchased just a couple of months prior to the incident. I felt horrible and having to tell him was terrifying. Because of times of like this, napkins and wipes are always in our glove compartment for miscellaneous spills and messes.

3 | Tide to go. Speaking of making messes, Tide to go literally goes everywhere with me. I’m horrible at keeping clothes clean and it’s especially horrible when you ruin your favorite shirt on a road trip and have no way of getting it clean ASAP.

4 | Bandaids. The travel aisle has a great little first aid kit you can buy for just a couple of dollars. You never know when you might need a bandaid.

5 |  Tampons. Does this even need explaining? No one wants a surprise in the middle of a road trip and have no way of taking care of it.

6 | Kleenex. Sometimes I use kleenex for smaller spills if needed, but they also come in handy when a cold hits unexpectedly. When we’re driving through different types of climates (like driving from North Carolina to Maine in the wintertime) I tend to get a stuffy nose. So I’m aways thankful when I have some kleenex handy rather than having to use a rough napkin.

7 | Gum. This isn’t necessarily an ’emergency’ item, but gum is especially good for driving through higher altitudes. Just like being on a plane, gum is a great way to prevent your ears from popping.

8 | Knife/scissors. I can’t even begin to tell you how handy it is to have a knife in your car. Not only for protection and safety purposes, but for some reason, there have been so many times where I’ve needed to cut things.

9 | Mints. Did you know that mints can help ease nausea? I had no idea until my mom gave me some at my parent’s wedding last month. I wasn’t feeling well and the mints instantly made my stomach feel better. I can’t promise it works on everyone, but I always keep mints in my emergency kit just in case it’s needed.

10 | Excedrin®. I love to get work done from the car whenever we’re on long road trips. I open up my MacBook and turn on my mobile hotspot and I instantly have my own little office on the road. It’s crazy what technology can do these days. I can literally work from anywhere. But working from the car can really take a toll on my eyes and head. Trying to get work done when you have a headache just isn’t fun. That’s why I always carry Excedrin® Extra Strength and Excedrin® Tension Headache.

Excedrin® provides fast relief from multiple headache types. For some, headache relief starts in just 15 minutes. Perfect for those moments when a headache creeps up on you unexpectedly. Looking for something Aspirin-free? Try Excedrin® Tension Headache! Headaches can easily ruin a great time whether it’s a date night, your wedding, or a big cross-country road trip. Thanks to having Excedrin® with me, I was better able to enjoy every aspect of our road trip. I could work from the passenger’s seat, listen to music with Zack, and enjoy each and every stop we made along the way without my head pounding the entire time. Excedrin® saved our road trip.

Excedrin® Extra Strength and Excedrin® Tension Headache can both be purchased at your local Walmart location in the medicine aisle. For more severe headaches and migraines you can try Excedrin® Migraine. If you’re needing something for nighttime relief then there’s Excedrin® PM.
