can be are a stressful time of year. Between all the Christmas shopping, traveling, and dealing with friends and family, you can be left feeling incredibly exhausted by the end of it all. It’s literally the most exhausting time of year. That’s why it’s important to find a way to effectively de-stress in the new year.
I’m the queen of getting stressed out. Seriously. I literally stress over everything under the sun. So over the years, I’ve had to come up with a few techniques to help myself recover and get back on track with my life once the holidays have ended. So if you’re feeling stressed and exhausted right now, here are some easy ways to help yourself feel a bit better!
Take some time to unwind
It’s okay to take a break from life whether it’s just a day, a weekend, or even a whole week. Take all the time you need! Draw yourself a bubble bath one night or treat yourself to a few glasses of wine. Sleep in later or go on a much-needed date night with your spouse. Plan a whole vacation if needed! Do whatever you have to do to relax and focus on yourself and get yourself motivated to start the new year off right. You can’t tackle those “new year, new me” resolutions if you’re still wiped out from the holidays.
Get back to the gym
One of my favorite things to do when I’m stressed out is going to the gym. It can be challenging to motivate yourself to go back to the gym after taking time off and traveling and everything else that goes along with the holidays. But I promise you’ll feel so much better once you do! It’s been proven that exercise can dramatically lower your stress levels and getting your body moving and in shape can really boost your mood! Not only will you be getting in shape, but you’ll also naturally feel more energized and good about yourself. And I guarantee you’ll notice a difference in your state of mind when you exercise compared to when you don’t.
Ask for help
I’m horrible with this, but there’s really nothing wrong with asking for help. Ask a family member or a friend to help you take down decorations or get your home straightened up. Maybe even send the kids to grandma’s house so that you and your spouse can have a night alone. There’s always someone available to help you tackle that never-ending to-do list. Don’t be afraid to ask for their assistance every once in a while.
We all have our guilty pleasures in life. I happen to love treating myself to a good manicure or a sweet I’ve been craving (lately it’s been milkshakes for some reason, but I have yet to actually buy one). Maybe even buy yourself something that’s been on your wish list, but you didn’t end up getting for the holidays. Whatever it may be, treat yourself to something you’ll enjoy. These little things not only brighten my mood but make me feel more relaxed. And if you’re anything like me, a good manicure or pedicure can make you feel refreshed and ready to take on anything (once your nails dry, of course)!
I don’t know about you, but I always feel like a complete mess after the holidays. Nothing seems to be in order anymore and I’m completely off track from everything I’m supposed to be doing. It can really make things stressful when I have to go back to the real world of waking up at a decent hour and getting back to work. That’s why I set aside a weekend after the holidays to sit down and put myself back together. Take down all the Christmas decorations, rid your home of excess clutter, clear your inboxes, make sure your work and/or school schedules are in order for the following week or month. Do whatever it is that you have to do to get yourself organized so that you can go into the new year stress-free.
