Growing up, traveling meant my sisters and I got to eat whatever we wanted and the last thing on my mind as a child was making healthy choices and exercising. But let’s be real. As a 26-year-old wife and mom, my metabolism just isn’t the same these days. Not to mention, we’re so much more health-conscious these days as well.
As so many of you know, our little family just traveled cross-country last month from San Diego, CA to Portland, ME. This was a 7 day, 50-hour road trip and let me tell you, at times it was flat out HARD to stay healthy. If you travel a lot then you understand what I mean here. But it’s not impossible to stay healthy and keep yourself on track while traveling either. So here are five super simple ways I keep myself healthy whenever we’re on the road.
Pack healthy snack options
It’s so easy to eat nothing but junk while traveling. We’re all guilty of it at some point or another. Some more so than others. That’s why I always make sure to have healthier snack options readily available whenever I’m traveling. Some of my favorites include cubed cheese, veggies and hummus, Triscuits, berries/fruit, mixed nuts, beef jerky, air-popped popcorn, protein bars, oven-baked chips, etc. I also always carry bottled water with me (or an empty, re-fillable bottle if I’m flying). This has always been really helpful for me in making sure I’m eating good foods.
Take your probiotics
Making sure you’re getting the right vitamins and minerals is so important. Especially while traveling. When I travel, I never leave home without Nature Made® Digestive Probiotics + Energy‡† B12 Adult Gummies. Probiotics are “good” bacteria that naturally exist in cultured or fermented foods that offer benefits for your digestive system. They push out unwanted organisms and allow more of the “good” bacteria to be present in your gut. Using a probiotics supplement is a great way to increase your intake of “good” bacteria and help naturally support your digestive health. † These probiotics also contain Vitamin B12 which supports cellular energy production.
I started taking probiotics last month when we drove cross-country and they made me feel so much better and more energized during our journey. Driving cross-country with a toddler and dog can be so straining so I knew I’d want to take my health one step further. Now, I always make sure to have Nature Made® Digestive Probiotics + Energy‡† B12 Adult Gummies with me whenever we travel!

Find a way to get moving
There are always ways to get yourself moving regardless of how you’re traveling or where you’re traveling to. If you’re on vacation, add some great hikes to your itinerary or find some fun activities that include a lot of walking. Depending on your hotel, you could have the option of a great gym as well to work out during your downtime. If traveling by car, take advantage of rest areas and do some stretches and walking while you’re stopped. You could even take it one step further and use this time to do some squats or other quick and easy workouts. Flights may be a little more tricky, but I’ve seen plenty of people who walk up and down the aisles to stretch and keep themselves moving on long flights.
Stretch it out
Like mentioned above, it’s important to find the time to stretch your body. Especially when you’re stuck in a car or on a plane for long periods of time. It’s so easy for your body to feel stiff and sore from the constant sitting that goes along with traveling so take the time to fully stretch out your body every chance you get. This will keep those muscles loose and feeling good.
Get plenty of sleep
While everything on this list can be challenging to do while on the go, this is a big one. Sleep plays such a huge role in your overall health and wellbeing. Between crossing time zones, getting in and out of a car or on and off a plane, carrying luggage, etc., your body and mind can be left feeling completely exhausted. Allow yourself to have some downtime whenever needed. Sleep in the car if you’re not driving or take a nap on the plane. Go to bed earlier when you arrive at your destination or take a break from sightseeing to relax in the hotel room. Do what you have to do to recharge.
