The holidays are such a wonderful and romantic time of year. Perfect for date nights with your significant other. It’s so important to have one on one time with your significant other and around the holidays, it can be very easy to forget to pencil in that time together. Between shopping for gifts, holiday parties and making the rounds to see your friends and family, date nights tend to be pushed to the side. But sharing experiences and creating new memories are so much more important than exchanging gifts. So here are some great, inexpensive date ideas for the holiday season.
Pick Out A Christmas Tree
What’s more fun than picking out a Christmas tree this time of year? Skip the artificial tree and find great a tree farm nearby. If you live in the north, then you’re probably surrounded by them. Better yet, find one where you can cut down your tree yourself! It’s a great team-building exercise for any couple.
Have A Cozy Night In
Date nights at home are perfect for a snowy night. There’s nothing like changing into your pj’s and curling up in bed or on the couch with your significant other for the night. It’s so much more relaxing and cheaper than a night out on the town and after all the Christmas shopping and holiday parties, a night in may be just what you need. There’s so much you can do for a cozy night in.
- Christmas movie marathon.
- Game night.
- Bake your favorite Christmas cookies.
- Host a spa night (complete with couples massages!).
- Plan your next vacation.
- Cook a new meal together.
- Make a Christmas ornament.
- Decorate the house together.
- Make your own gingerbread house.
Of course with any night in, be sure to have something delicious to snack on. Order takeout from your favorite pizza shop or Chinese place. Pop open your favorite bottle of wine or warm hot cocoa (or other drink of choice) or roast some s’mores over the fireplace. Whatever it may be, be sure to have your favorites foods readily available for your relaxing night!
Have A Holiday Photo Shoot
Taking couples (or family) photos together every holiday season can be a great way to bond. Photostats can be intimate and personal and if you choose the right photographer, it will be fun as well! Great photographers are able to loosen you up and help you connect on a fun, intimate level. So it never hurts to have a couples photo session at any time during the year. Plus sending out Christmas cards is a great tradition to start as a couple.
Take A Sleigh Ride Through The Snow
If you are fortunate enough to live in a place where there’s snow, I guarantee there’s somewhere nearby that does sleigh rides. So hit up Google to find a local farm that does them. This can be a really romantic date night idea: drinking hot cocoa, bundled up in blankets with your significant other while you ride in a horse-drawn sleigh through the snow. How can it get any more romantic than that?
Do Some Christmas Decoration Sight-Seeing
This can be a fun, relaxed outing for couples. AND it’s free! Grab some hot cocoa and bundle up in warm clothing and go on a drive to see all the Christmas lights and festive window displays in your town or neighborhood. Depending on where you live, there may be neighborhoods nearby that are known for decorating. In San Diego, California, they have a neighborhood called Candy Cane Lane. Everyone parks on nearby streets and walks the neighborhood to see the festive lights up close in person. Some homes even pass out hot cocoa and other treats. It’s a great date night for those who want something that’s both relaxing and fun.
See The Nutcracker Ballet
You don’t need to spend a lot of money to travel to New York City to see The Nutcracker. There are so many cities across the country (and even smaller towns and schools) that have a production of the Nutcracker this time of year. Maybe it’s your local ballet studio or a nearby high school. Either way, it’s going to be so much cheaper than traveling to New York and it still allows you to attend a classic Christmas production.
Go Ice Skating
Even if you’re completely horrible at ice skating, this can be a super fun and romantic date idea. If one of you is better than the other then you can take the time to teach the other person. If you’re both just as bad then that’s even better! You can be horrible at it together and learn as you go.
There are so many ways to give back this time of year. Why not find a great charity in your area to donate your time to? Soup kitchens are always looking for extra help around the holidays and it makes for a cheap and fun date night idea as well. It’s also a great way to meet new people and learn more about those less fortunate. If soup kitchens aren’t up your ally you could always wrap presents for little ones, donate and help at a local food bank, go caroling, donate toys to Toys for Tots, stuff stockings, and so much more. Be sure to check out what’s going on in your area for more ideas.
Build A Snowman
If you have enough snow in your area then building a snowman together can be super fun! If you want to take it one step further, you could turn it into a competition to see who can make the better snowman. Then have friends and family vote on the best one!
Cheap sleds can be found just about anywhere this time of year. Buy a couple and find your closest hill. You can go down together or even race one another in your own sleds. You can turn this activity into a competition as well where the first one to reach the bottom of the hill gets a prize. It can be anything from choosing what’s for dinner that night, a nice back massage or even a romantic kiss in the snow. Make it fun and interesting!
