[ad] How To Look Photo-Ready This Holiday Season - A breakdown of how I prep my look to be photo-ready and a sneak peek at what I'm wearing to our family's Christmas party. #MyAgeBeautiful #sponsored

Today I am dreaming of Christmas parties. Anyone else? We’re only halfway through the month and we’ve already had more family gatherings than I can count with so many more to go. And Christmas parties in the Bartlett household means photos…lots of photos. But I just don’t feel very photo-ready these days.

The biggest issue I have with my look is my gray hairs. If you know me, you know that I started getting gray hair when I was probably 15 or 16 years old or so. Maybe even younger. Zack started graying as a teen as well. It was always so frustrating as a teen and even now as a 26-year-old adult. So since we’re in the midst of the holiday season, I knew I needed to get my hair under control prior to attending holiday parties. I just didn’t want to look back on these photos and see all the grays. So I knew it was time to touch them up!

My go-to hair color is the Zotos Professional AGEbeautiful anti-aging hair color which can be found at your local Sally Beauty store. AGEbeautiful contains melanin, keratin peptide, silk protein and a patented conditioning technology to replenish hair with the essential components that are lost with aging. It leaves hair feeling fuller, silkier and shiny!

So the other day I picked up my shade so I could finally tackle these grays. AGEbeautiful is available in 2 choices- liquid or liquid-crème. The liquid can ONLY be applied with the applicator bottle while the liquid-crème can be applied with either the bottle or bowl and brush. It’s totally a personal preference. I chose the liquid-crème and used a bowl and brush to apply it. This tends to be much easier for me (and can also be a bit easier for those coloring their hair for the first time).

When using the Zotos Professional AGEbeautiful anti-aging hair color, be sure to also pick up gloves, a bowl and brush (if you choose), and the developer. 99% of the time 20 volume is the correct developer and it’s what I picked up for myself as well. If you’re ever unsure of what shade or developer you need, be sure to ask a Sally Beauty associate for help!

Once you have your supplies and are home in your bathroom, be sure to grab some old towels and change into something comfy and old. I always toss on an old tank top or t-shirt so I don’t get my nice clothing stained. I also recommend removing bathroom rugs and laying down an old towel to catch any drips. Hair dye can be quite messy and sometimes, you don’t notice the stains until it’s too late. So always think ahead!

When mixing the hair dye and the developer, make sure you’re paying attention to the ratios. For most shades, it’s a 1:1 ratio, meaning for every ounce of color you need an ounce of the developer. The color comes in a 2oz tube while the developer comes in a 4oz bottle. If you have long thick hair, then it’s best to purchase two of the 2oz color. It’s best to measure the developer first and then add in the color. As mentioned above, I chose to use a bowl and brush to apply the color so I mixed everything up in the bowl and began working on those roots.

Pro Tips:

  • If you haven’t used AGEbeautiful before then I recommend doing a patch test first to make sure you’re not allergic. You don’t want to get halfway through your hair only to find out you’re allergic to an ingredient found in the dye. So always patch test first and foremost.
  • Do not forget the gloves! Trust me on this!
  • Wear an old t-shirt or even consider investing in a cape.
  • Apply conditioner or Vaseline around your hairline/forehead as well as on the tops of your ears to prevent color staining.

As you can see from the photo above I had a lot of grays. And they grow in so quickly too so they were out of control by the time I touched them up again. Because of this, I left the hair color on for a total of 45 minutes to help combat stubborn grays and then washed it with a color protectant conditioner. My hair was left feeling soft and looking healthy once I dried it.

This year, I’m so excited to get all dressed up with my husband and family. My hair finally looks refreshed and photo-ready for all of these holiday parties we have coming up. I don’t have to hide the grays behind a headband or opt out of family photos. I can walk into the parties feeling comfortable and gorgeous!

This year, I’m excited to be going to parties cute but comfortable. This sweater dress is not only warm, but it’s super comfortable and easy to wear as well. I like to pair it with warm black leggings as well as some black boots. When outdoors, I’ll be adding a cute Navy blue peacoat and once I’m indoors, I’ll be swapping it out for a gorgeous blanket scarf if needed or desired.

To finish off the look, I added some curls and beachy waves to my hair to give it a little more volume (anyone else have super thin, flat hair? Love this look!). I love to lock them in with a little mousse or a beachy waves spray as opposed to hairspray. It locks in the curls without leaving my hair feeling crunchy.

For my makeup, I tend to always do a more natural look for the simple reason that there’s less makeup to accidentally have smear throughout the day. To give it a little more pizazz, I like to add red lips. The pop of color instantly takes a basic makeup look to a gorgeous red carpet look.
