You’ve heard the saying ‘moms don’t take sick days’. Well, let me tell you something. That is 100% TRUE! While I am so fortunate to have an amazing husband who does a tremendous amount of work around the house and with parenting, I still just do not have the time to be sick. No mom does. Especially not during the busiest time of year: the holidays.

There are so many factors that contribute to keeping your immune system strong and ready to take on any virus that comes your way. So with the holidays in full swing, I’m doing anything and everything I can to keep myself happy and healthy. First and foremost, I always make sure to keep up with my gym routine. The holidays are a really challenging time to stay consistent in this department, but it’s so important that you do. Even if it’s just a walk around the block or a 1-hour yoga session or even a 30-minute at home workout you got from YouTube. There are so many amazing benefits to working out consistently and I promise it’ll help tremendously in keeping you healthy and feeling great through the holidays.

I say ‘no’. 

Saying ‘no’ occasionally can be so beneficial for your mental health and overall wellbeing. Between all the holiday parties, work, being a mom, the housework, and holiday activities with family, my schedule can easily become very hectic this time of year. But there’s nothing wrong with saying ‘no’ sometimes. Give yourself a day off here and there to allow yourself the time to regroup and rest before getting back to your never-ending to-do list. Stress plays a huge role in your immune system so always make time in your day for some downtime.

I get plenty of sleep. 

I always aim for 8-9 hours of sleep every night. If I can get more, that’s even better (although anything over 10 tends to make me feel groggy)! As I’ve mentioned in my other points, this is one of the many things that can greatly contribute to how easily you catch a cold. The less sleep you’re getting, the worse you’re making your immune system. So if you have a day where you feel you need a nap, take one! And if you have the opportunity to go to bed at 9 o’clock as opposed to midnight, then do it! You’ll never regret feeling well-rested.

I watch what I eat.

Lastly, I watch what I eat. The foods you put into your body play a huge role in pretty much every aspect of your health. I try to eat a lot of good, clean foods. Lots of protein and veggies. This time of year I may also add in some extra Vitamin C as well. But when it comes to holiday sweets, it can be challenging to say no. So because of this, I always allow myself to indulge but within reason. For example, I won’t be chowing down on 5 sugar cookies or asking for an extra slice of pie. But if I want a treat here and there, there’s nothing wrong with having one. Everything is okay in moderation.
