[ad] Today I am dreaming of Christmas parties. Anyone else? We’re only halfway through the month and we’ve already had more family gatherings than I can count with so many more to go. And Christmas parties in the Bartlett household means photos…lots of photos. But I just didn't feel very photo-ready thanks to my grays (and yes, I had A LOT of grays). So I picked up @zotosprofessional hair color at @sallybeauty and these days I'm feeling gorgeous, confident, and ready to take on the holiday photos. Today on the blog, I'm sharing how I get myself photo-ready as well as what I plan to wear to this year's Christmas party! #MyAgeBeautiful #sponsored #linkinbio

[ad] Today I am dreaming...

I've been a bit MIA lately. Why you may ask? Well, because I've been half on the struggle bus and half working on a rather large project that I've had in draft mode for far too long. And I am SO excited about it. I literally woke up the other day and decided THAT was the day I'd get started on it and I've been hooked on it ever since. If you're a mom in Southern Maine, you won't want to miss this! So be sure to sign up for our email list via the link in my bio so you can be one of the first to know what's going on.

I've been a bit MIA...

Well, it's officially the day Zack and I have been looking forward to for a couple of years now. While we've already unofficially been "moved on" from military life for a couple of months now, today it's official that Zack is no longer an Active Duty Marine and I am no longer a military spouse. The first big chapter of his adult life and our life together has officially ended. It's scary almost when you've been living with all the stability of a lifestyle for so long. A stable job, stable income, health benefits, a home. It's been a challenging couple of months as we get more settled here in Maine and figure out the next step for our little family. But I know we have so much to look forward to in the next year and it's refreshing to know we have the opportunity to start over. I am so proud of this guy and I can't wait to see what the next chapter of our life has in store for us. •

Well, it's officially the day...

This mama is on the struggle bus today. This morning I spent over an hour searching for Allie's sippy cup of milk only to find it in the shower...where I looked 5+ times considering that's where she was playing while I got ready for the day. I then got the incorrect order from Dunkin and to make that even worse, it was pumpkin flavored...and if you know me, you know I cannot stand anything pumpkin flavored so I couldn't even suck it up and drink it (shoutout to @mwhited8195 for bringing me the correct drink order!). Nap time wasn't any better. A solid 40 minutes of crying before Allie finally went down...then she woke up 30 minutes later 🙄 And now I'm scrambling to get everything on my to-do list done so we can officially launch Blogmas tomorrow 😬 It's been a morning and I'm about ready for my own nap at this point. But at least it's Friday? 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

It's yet another snow day here in Maine. The last winter I spent here was in 2015 and we maybe had three snow storms all winter. This year, we've had 3-5 just in the last couple of weeks 🙄 I'm already homesick for beautiful and warm North Carolina summers 😔 anyone else here who hates winter? If you need us, Allie and I will be curled up inside with some movies and a never-ending to-do list. #bloggerlife •

Spring Break Packing List | Keating & Co.

Springtime is finally here which means many of you may be planning a spring break trip to somewhere warmer.  Unfortunately I will not be taking a spring break trip (I’ve actually never been on spring break), but last week Zack brought up the idea of going on a cruise when he comes home from Japan this summer. We’ve never been on a vacation and after 11-12 months apart, I’m thinking we may need one before we’re off to our next base and start the next chapter of our lives.  Even though this is still four or five months away, I’m very Type A so I’m already jumping into the planning process.

I’ve never been out of the country before nor have I ever been on a cruise.  So the fact that I’ll be able to spend a week on a tropical island (possibly Bermuda), sipping on a margarita with my husband sounds absolutely perfect to me.

When I was a teenager, I was horrible at packing.  Rather than packing the items I actually needed, I had a habit of packing all my favorite items.  My favorite clothes and my favorite beauty products had to go everywhere with me even if I didn’t plan on wearing/using them.  It was a bit ridiculous and resulted in my constantly having 3-5 pages on every trip (no joke…I was a nightmare to travel with).  Nowadays I have a system when I’m packing for a trip.

First I like to have some sort of itinerary so that I know how many days I’ll be gone and what I’ll be doing while I’m away.   This allows me to see how many outfits I’m going to need throughout my trip as well as what type of outfits I’ll be needing.  For spring break, you’ll typically be away for 5-7 days.  Of course this will vary, but our cruise this summer will be about 7 nights.  It’s a tropical vacation so I really won’t need anything too complicated.  A good majority of our cruise will be spent on the beach and/or in the water along with eating meals on the ship and enjoying the live entertainment and bars.  Pretty straightforward and easy to pack for.  Knowing what I’m going to be doing and how long I’ll be gone makes it so much easier to figure out what to pack.

Second, I start creating all of my outfits.  For this trip, I will need about 7 outfits for while I’m on board the ship along with some few extra outfits for traveling to and from Boston and extra clothing for dinners or anything else that may come up.  If an outfit gets wet on the beach then I’ll need some backup options.  I know that will need a couple bikinis as well as cover ups for them.  I will also need some cute, loose rompers and sundresses along with shorts and tops to go with them.  Flip flops, wedges/high heels, and possibly sneakers.  I’ll most likely need something nice to wear to dinner.  Sunhat for the beach.  Pretty easy packing process if you ask me.

While planning my outfits, I also take into consideration the accessories I need for each.  For the most part, I will not be carrying a bag with me on this trip.  I will have a beach bag for when we’re on the beach and I’ll have a smaller, fancier bag for when we’re out to dinner or a bar on the ship.  That will probably be it for bags.  Shoes are also very straightforward.  I’ll stick with flip flops/sandals, a pair of wedges/heels, and a pair of sneakers.  So three pairs total.  I also will not be bringing too much jewelry either.  I will wear the same necklace and earrings every day that we’re there.  My Alex and Ani bangles will stay home and I’m still debating on my wedding and engagement ring.  I know some people highly suggest these items get left at home, but I will literally have anxiety the entire trip if I do that.  So it’s still up in the air as of right now.

Third, I need my beauty products.  This includes all makeup, shower products, and miscellaneous extras that I may need.  Again, I try to pack just the necessities.  If it’s a shorter trip, then pack travel sized products if possible.  Again, since we’ll be on the beach a lot and it will be hot and humid, I really wont have a reason to bring too many makeup products.  I’ll probably stick the basics most days and then throw on some mascara and eyeliner for nighttime when we’re on the ship.  I will also only be taking both my straightener and curling iron with me.  I will be leaving my blow dryer at home simply because it will be very hot and humid so my hair wont have any issues dying on its own.  I try to condense as much as I can so that I’m not carrying a million bags full of clothes and products I wont even end up touching.

Lastly, I need my JERGENS® Natural Glow® Daily Moisturizer and JERGENS® Natural Glow® FACE Daily Moisturizer with Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 20.  I am super pale and really don’t like to sit out in the sun all day, tanning, so it’s super important to me that I have great products that will give me the tan look that I’m going for.  I try to use both the glow moisturizer and the glow facial moisturizer on a daily basis.  The two of these products combined offer an all-over sunless tanning look that is perfect for your spring break!  You apply them each day until you’ve achieved your desired look.  From there, you can switch to only applying it once or twice a week.  If you need a more instant tan then you can also purchase the JERGENS® Natural Glow® Instant Sun® Sunless Tanning Mousse.  This gives you an instant tan that you only have to touch up once a week.  You can buy all of these products at Walmart and save $3.00 on any 2 full size Jergens® Natural Glow® Product (Offer excludes trial and travel sizes).

The Best way to stay organized during the packing process is to create a list.  Being that I’m very Type A, I love making lists for just about everything in my life.  And traveling is no different.  Creating an effective packing list is a very easy process that anyone at home can do in five minutes or less (disclaimer: this will vary depending on how long you take to come up with your list).

Step 1: Gather materials.

You’ll need:

  • Computer
  • Printer with ink and paper
  • 1 sheet protector
  • Dry erase marker

Relatively simple already.  If you do not have any of the above, you can very easily write it all out, but being the organized person that I am, I have to make it a bit more fancy.

Step 2: Begin making your list.

Going off the guidelines I gave you above, start making a list of everything you may need throughout your trip.  Think about how long you’ll be away for and what you’ll be doing on your trip so that you have an outfit for each day/occasion.  I also recommend throwing in an extra outfit or two just in case.  You never know what may come up throughout your trip that could cause you to have to change clothes.  I categorize everything by clothing, beauty, and miscellaneous.  You can get as detailed as you want here!  But don’t forget to add JERGENS® Natural Glow® Daily Moisturizer and JERGENS® Natural Glow® FACE Daily Moisturizer with Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 20 to your list!

Step 3:  Print and use.

It really is that easy!  Once your list has been made, it’s time to print it out and use it!  I slip mine inside a clear sheet protector and use a dry erase marker to check everything off my list.  This allows me to use it as many times as I want without having to create a whole new list or print it off again.  Plus, if I make a mistake, I can always erase it without everything looking messy and disorganized.  I use this method for all my checklists and it works out perfectly!

What do you pack when you go on a tropical vacation?  Do you add JERGENS® Natural Glow® to your packing list?
