Our Toddler Morning Routine

our toddler morning routine

Good morning and happy Tuesday everyone! I hope you all are having a wonderful week so far. Today I wanted to take a moment to share our everyday morning routine. Now that Allie is almost a toddler (next month!), our daily routines and schedules have shifted a bit. 11 months in and we finally have a good, structured routine in place for our day. It feels great!

I’m a firm believer in schedules and routines for kids of all ages and our own routines work so well in our home! Our day definitely goes so much smoother when we’re on track and going by our usual schedule. Since I am super nosy when it comes to other moms’ morning routines, I thought I’d share ours in case some of you are as nosy as I am!

6:30 / 7 AM – Allie typically wakes sometime between 6:30 and 7 o’clock in the morning. She’s still an excellent sleeper so she usually gets a full 12 straight hours of sleep at night. We’re super thankful here! But I wouldn’t mind her waking up just a tad later (wishful thinking).

Since I work from home, we’re a little slower in starting our day so I’ll usually pull her into bed with me for a bit and we’ll lay there cuddling and/or playing for about 30-60 minutes (yes, a full hour. Some mornings we’re just that “lazy”). I really love this time because it allows us to wake up at our own pace and it’s just a nice, easy transition into our morning. We do this on weekends as well when Zack’s home with us. It’s easily my favorite part of our day.

7:30 AM – By 7:30 or so, we’re usually getting up and ready for the day. I get Allie changed into a clean diaper and some clothes and then I do my morning skincare routine, put in my contacts and change into some workout clothes for our morning jog. I don’t do my hair and makeup until I put Allie down for her morning nap. I don’t want the makeup to clog my pores during our jog and it’s a million times easier to do my hair and makeup when I don’t have a mobile little one getting into everything.

8 AM – Once we’re both dressed and ready, we head downstairs to prep for our jog. Allie will drink her morning bottle while I’m getting the stroller all packed up and ready to go. Some mornings it’s much cooler (usually around 55 degrees or so), so on those mornings, I always pack a couple jackets for us as well as a hat for Allie if she needs it (it’s also been very breezy so having extra layers is always good!). As you can see from these photos, it wasn’t cold whatsoever when we photographed our morning routine so jackets weren’t needed. I also pack sunscreen, earbuds, water for myself, a sippy cup with water for Allie, wipes, a small trash bag, toys, a pacifier, and Happy Family Whole Milk Yogurt Pouches for her breakfast.

We’re gone about an hour so I always pack something for her to eat for breakfast and anything she could need in that hour to keep her happy and occupied. The last thing I want is a cranky baby when we’re 2 miles from home. That just doesn’t sound like fun to me!

8:30 AM – The goal is to be out of the house by 8:30 or so. Sometimes this happens and sometimes it’s closer to 8:45. But either way, we’re out the door around this time and off on our morning jog.

Currently, we are jogging 5 miles every morning! It’s about a 2.5-mile jog to one of the nearby highways so we jog to the highway and back. Half of it is hills so it makes for a really good workout (especially considering I’m pushing a 20+ pound baby in a jogging stroller)! I jog on the straight and downhill portions of the route and then walk during the uphill portions.

On the way back to the house, we love stopping for coffee. At this point, I’m usually about 3.5 miles into the jog so it’s a good resting place for coffee and breakfast. This is when I get Allie out of the stroller to feed her while I sip my coffee and respond to emails from my iPhone. This keeps her tummy nice and full for the remainder of the jog.

For breakfast lately, Allie is loving the Happy Family Whole Milk Yogurt Pouches. These are super easy to toss into the stroller for her to eat on the go PLUS they’re good for her nutritionally! They’re made with Whole Milk Yogurt with Vitamin D and probiotics, have no added sweeteners, no GMO’s, and they’re even USDA organic! How perfect is that?!

Allie started eating yogurt when she was about 9 months old or so. Most babies can start eating yogurt as soon as they start eating solids which is around 6 months old. Our pediatrician recommended we start yogurt around this age as well because yogurt is an excellent source of calcium, protein, and vitamins! This makes it a great choice for one of your baby’s first foods.

We went the baby led weaning route when it came to starting solids with Allie but we did pick up some miscellaneous baby foods to add a little more variety to her meals (and let’s be honest, I didn’t want to be cooking or making something new 3 times a day, 7 days a week either!). We always picked up Happy Family food pouches and Allie loved them so much. So we were super excited to find out Happy Family was coming out with a yogurt line and even more excited to find out they’d come in a pouch form as well.

You can pick these up at your local Walmart and if you download the ibotta app to your smartphone, you can earn $1 back when you purchase 3 Happy Tot Yogurt Pouches. I am a huge fan of ibotta and take it with me every single time I go to the store. It’s a great way to find the best offers at your favorite stores and earn cash back on the things you buy every day! So it’s a great app to have if you’re a mom.

Anyways, after Allie is done eating her breakfast, I get her cleaned up and strapped back into her stroller to finish the remainder of our jog. She usually just plays with a toy the rest of the way so she’s super good on these jogs!

9:30 / 10 AM – We usually get home from our jog sometime between 9:30 and 10 am. It takes us a good hour to an hour and a half to complete all 5 miles between having to wait to cross intersections, stopping to check on the little one, and stopping for breakfast. But this is the perfect start to our day because by the time we get home, it’s time for the little one to transition to nap time!

Allie is offered a small bottle if she wants it while I change her and then I bring her back upstairs for her morning nap. From there, I do a quick ab workout, shower, and then straighten up the house or head to my office to get some work done until she wakes again.

And there you have it! That is our morning routine in our home. I wasn’t completely sure how much of our routine to include in this post, but I think leaving off at nap time is the perfect end spot!

I’d love to know! What is your toddler morning routine? Do you a special routine place or is every morning different?
